I watched "Car of the Future" from NOVA with Click and Clack.



Interesting facts:

• Less than 1% of the gas is used to move the driver.

• The 800 million cars in the world would circle the globe 100 times.

• Cars are larger and heavier which cancels increased fuel efficiency.

Moral of the movie? It will take a long time to improve cars.
Good thing we have bikes.

I spent the day taking Traffic 101 road skills from EBBC in Oakland.
It rained most of the day, thankfully not hard till the very end.

Matt and Rose from Ybike were awesome instructors.

Rose demonstrates bicycle safety.

It was fun to ride around the Lake Merritt part of Oakland.

Novato & Colorado

I've been riding 37 mile round-trips to Novato this week to teach bicycling.
Nothing like 1.5 hours in the rain to make you feel alive!

I've been missing Colorado recently, the open space and active people.
This video shows why Boulder is one of the top 3 cities for cycling in the US.

Japan turns to bicycles

After the earthquake and tsunami, Japan now faces power outages as they try to stabilize numerous nuclear power plants.

During these chaotic times, the bike continues to be reliable transportation and many stores are sold-out of bicycles.

Hoo Koo E Koo

Rode up steep residential streets from Corte Madera to Blithedale Ridge.

Hoo Koo E Koo'ed to Old Railroad and down to Mill Valley. Sweet.


Pushed back over Blithedale Ridge, covered in mud and grinning.

Sausalito, Tam, Groceries

I know it is a good day when I've ridden three bikes.

After dropping off the Safe Routes truck full of bikes, I rode my skinny tire bike from San Rafael to Sausalito. The bike paths were brimming with cyclists.

Got home, ate lunch. Rode over Tam with my fat tire bike.

CAUTION: epic views

Got home, changed clothes. Rode to the grocery store on the single-speed.

Last time I got in mileage on 3 bikes in one day was Oct 4, 2009 (JBG).

Moving Beyond the Automobile

San Rafael Parks

During my lunch break at Davidson MS I discovered two new parks.

Boyd Park is on a hill right near downtown.
The Marin History Museum is beside the park, I'll check that out later!

Then I passed Albert Park and Marin Bocce Federation.
I may check that out later as well!

Keep on Trucking?

There was a traffic jam this morning caused by a lumber truck.

HWY 101 delayed for hours.

A recent study has found that trucks (which ship 70% of goods in the US) are the least efficient way of shipping when compared to trains and boats.

Trains remove heavy cargo from public roads.

Tunnel to San Rafael

I'm excited to be at Davidson Middle School all this week and next.

I've been using the new Cal Park Hill tunnel to get there and it's a breeze!
