Pain in the...

Monday I woke up with a stiff neck and I tried to work through it.  The next day I was totally out-of-business.  Doc got me back on my feet.  Today with more than a little help from my friends we had another great rodeo at Rancho Elementary!

Misery loves company and I read that +Richard Bolt was down with the other "pain in the" this week as well.  Luckily I'm on the mend, until then-

Advocacy

My bike commute today had pleasant views.

School commuters often walk or bike my town.  Not just parents or health advocates should be excited, even Joe and Jane drive-everywhere benefit from kids biking!

These students biking= less traffic jams.

While separating bikes from cars is great, usually bikes and cars share space.

When sharing, safe separation comes from blocking vehicular thru-traffic.

Many roads are dead-end for cars, creating safe cycling.

Bike share in Marin?  Yes please.

Hoo Koo E Koo

We went for a hike on Hoo Koo E Koo trail from our abode.

I've been off the recreational bikes this week fighting a cold.

Riding, Advocating Bikes

48.5 miles of bicycle transportation.  Often people are surprised to learn that riding to Novato is possible by bike.  Not only is it possible, there's great cycling facilities most of the way!

Bike transportation can add years to our lives and fix many expensive problems.

Vistas and paths like this make it even easier to slow down and get outside.

Reed students love the local bike path.

This evening I rolled up with a posse to a county transportation meeting.

Caltrans has a $143 million dollar highway project that ruins the only safe route for pedestrians and bikers to cross HWY 101 in Corte Madera.  Not cool.

Is this inviting to walking or biking with kids? (Wornum X Redwood)

Where are the people biking and walking?

Strange Scooters

Scooters are the "Unsung Mobility Option" and as this article shows, even deserve parking.

Dinky Razor scooters are OK but recently my buddy Dan hit me with this-

the "mountain monk" a wearable folding scooter

so I counter him with the dog-scooter.  strangest device... who wins?

Another gorgeous day in the Marin Headlands, riding today with my boss Wendi!

Perfect.  Trails, weather and bike fuse for the perfect ride!

27 miles, +3,700 feet, 2:36 hours.

40 miles of bike commute today that included 4 hills and 1 bike tunnel.

I always show up in a good mood at schools like Rancho Elementary,
after an hour long ride I'm ready to teach the children!

Coyote Ridge

Hike in the headlands on a cool clear winter's day.

Point Reyes

Estero Trail in Point Reyes was trampled into a muddy mess by a bunch of cattle so we abandoned our ride halfway.

A side trip to Point Reyes Beach saved the day, whales were spouting.

Back on the bike after more than a week and it felt great.

We walked miles around Minneapolis, using the Skyways that connect downtown buildings without walking outside.  

Repack to Rwanda

At SFO airport I checked out the From Repack to Rwanda mountain bike exhibit.

The first purpose built mountain bikes were developed here in Marin and the first mountain bike races took place on a trail named Repack.  The technology has come a long way!

New Year started, bike ridden.
